Movie Poster Research Paper
Our next assignment in Advanced Graphics was to write our first research paper. The topic of the research paper was movie poster design. We had to observe two posters from movies made before the 1950's and one movie poster from current times. We had to answer some simple questions such as:
- What is the hierarchy of design?
- Which characters are featured?
- Which characters are most important?...Why?
- Observation of colors.
- What kind of colors are being used?....theorize as to why this might be?
- How are the characters arranged?
- What is the shape of the design?
- How does your eye move across the page?
- Text or credits are located where?
- What is the hierarchy of the text?
I have my research paper attached as a file below for your viewing pleasure! I was happy with it's outcome. I might have gotten a 100 if I didn't get 5 points taking off for handing it in 1 day late.

Dodgeball Tshirt Design
Our next project in advanced graphics was to make a Tshirt design for the Annual Dodge Ball Tournament at our school. We used Adobe Illustrator to make it. I used the circle tool to make a red circle resembling a dodgeball and then I took pictures of people playing dodgeball I found on the internet and outlined them and filled them in opaque black to make it look like their silhouette. I then took text and used the type on path tool to make the words curve to the shape of the ball. I tried to make this design simple, but still asthetically pleasing and fun so that the kids that might have been wearing it would like it. I am happy with the outcome but felt like if I had more time I could have made the design much better.
South American Prison Movie Poster
Our next project in graphics was to make a South American Movie Poster. The poster had to be about a dramatic movie, it had to be 22 by 26, and it had to be in sepia tones and include certain elements like at least 3 characters, a tagline, our logo, and the rating. To make this poster I used Adobe Photoshop. I took pictures of three of my friends in Mr.Ramos' class and photoshopped them onto different bodies such as on a police man and prisoner. I took a picture of a South American prison jail cell and used the burn tool to make it darker and more eerie. Next, I took a picture of an explosion and put the opacity down so it would fade into the jail cell. I then used the burn tool to make the edges of the background fade to black and used the blur tool to get rid of the hard edges of the characters and make them blend into the picture better. I added all of the actor names, movie title, the credits, the rating, tagline, and the date that the movie was coming out and any other elements needed. Next, I put all of the layers into one and added a sepia tone to make it look like an old fashioned drama. I am extremely happy with the outcome!
Guidence Counselor Meeting
Our most recent adventure in graphics class was taking a career aptitude test. It is a test with many questions about work enviroments, school, and our personalities to decide which field of study we would be best off in. My top categories were Art, Math-science, and Literary. This fits me because I like art and being creative and I am a good writer. Math-science kind of fits me because I am good at those subjects, but I would not be interested in them because I do not like them. After I took this test and finalized my results, I met with my guidence counselor, Mr.Judge, and we talked about my results and future career paths I could go in. We decided that I would do good in a profession with computers or as an English teacher or something of the sort. We also checked to make sure the classes I am taking next year will go along with my career options. This will help me in the future by narrowing down the countless options I have for jobs. Since, I am undecided with what I want to do when I go to college, this was very helpful.
