Orange stop motion
For our next project in graphics we had to make a stop motion animation video including an orange. Instead of just cutting up the orange and arranging it in different ways, we took a different...erm more creative approach. My partner Seth, thought up the idea of an orange "taking off its shirt" aka half of the peel and jumping in the pool. We created a story board and began to make our video using the typical stop motion approach: place, take a picture, change it slightly, take a picture. I am pretty happy with how the video turned out. The only thing I would have changed would be to have smoother transitions. Also, I would have spent more time on it because we didn't have enough time to add in some things we wanted due to the fact that other students continued to change the positioning of our studio everytime we had to leave it at the end of class.
Sand Animation
Our next project in Graphics III was to do sand animation! My partner Morgan and I decided to make our movie themed after the movie Tangled. We used the sand to create a tower, a window, and the silhouette of Rapunzel. We then used our fingers to create lines in the sand in the silhouette of her hair to make it appear as if her hair was beginning to glow just like it does in the movie.
Out of Bounds Photoshop Tutorial
For my next assignment I was allowed to pick one photoshop tutorial that seemed interesting and try it out. I decided to use the out of bounds tutorial. I followed these steps : http://still-scripts.com/photoshop/creating-out-of-bounds-photoshop-effect-tutorial/ using a picture of a shark jumping out of the water instead of a penguin. I am really happy with how this tutorial came out and I can see it being useful for future projects.
T-shirt Design
For this project I chose to do a fourth of july t-shirt to wear at work. I made an american flag using adobe illustrator and then I put the word " 'merica" which is redneck slang for america on top of it and used the clipping mask to create red white and blue letters. I then outlined a picture of the United States with the pen tool and placed the words on top to create a patriotic, fourth of july shirt.
Reflection
This year in Graphics III I learned to improve all of my photoshop and illustrator skills by experimenting with the free transform tool and the clipping mask in projects like the Out of Bounds tutorial and the T-shirt design. I also learned how to use the rig removal tool and make smoother transitions in stop motion projects such as the sand animation project. My favorite project this year was the sand animation because we got to work with partners and our theme was Tangled which is one of my favorite movies. My least favorite project was any other stop motion project because I just really don't like stop motion animation and would rather work in photoshop or illustrator. If I could redo a project it would be the orange project because it does not have smooth transitions. I would also change the concept to match the examples that we found from sesame street. These skills will help me in the future because I want to go to school for some type of technology, possibly graphic design, and these will all be valuable to me in the future.
